Enjoy the moment

I read an article on The Best Article Every Day that basically said "Memories fade so you should keep a journal."

I'm writing this while feeding Connor at 4.45am. On the one hand, part of me is saying "I'm looking forward to when Connor does X, Y or Z (e.g. smiles, crawls, walks, leaves home... etc). It's tiring work right now. But Helen said "enjoy the moment - don't just look forward." At the time I thought "but all he does is eat, sleep, need his nappy changing, oh and CRY! But looking back, even after just 7 weeks, actually Connor really has made plenty of changes.

In week 1, he barely opened his eyes. Now, he spends a lot of time with his eyes open, (when they aren't screwed up with crying), has some head control, follows you around the room with his eyes, *almost* smiles, and is even already becoming a telly-addict! And I'm sure there is plenty else that he is doing too.

But I'm still looking forward to when he lets us get a bit more sleep. I'm allowed to wish for that, right?
