Helen's parents came to visit us today, and took us to the Toby Carvery for lunch. It was very nice.
They've also brought a cot for us. Connor will be the 8th baby to have this cot, the previous 7 being Helen's cousins, Helen's sisters, and Helen herself! I wonder if the cot will be around for another generation after Connor :)
We're trying to work out a night-time routine. As usual, Connor is awake. I'm waiting for him to go to sleep. As expected with a newborn, we're both absolutely shattered. Helen is bearing the brunt of the night shift though, so I can be awake at work, but it isn't ideal.
The plan for nights was that we'd go 50-50 at the weekends, but during the week I wake up and help for only one feed during the night each work-night, but that didn't really work.
Tonight we're trying guaranteed time. Basically each of us will take a 2 hour shift, but the shift doesn't start until Connor is awake. The guarantees are that per pair of shifts, we are each guaranteed 2 hours sleep minimum, and 2 hours awake maximum. Any extra sleep time that Connor is asleep is a bonus.
The shift not starting until Connor is awake is important because otherwise, if the shifts were dictated by the clock, I could take the 12-2 and 4-6 shifts, but if Connor was only awake 2-4 and 6-8 then Helen would be the only one doing the work.
Helen is asleep. I'm waiting for Connor to sleep so I can get my bonus sleep time in. I'll let you know how it's working out.
